Material and methods. the study included 1018 patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy (cea). group 1 consisted of 27 (2.6%) patients who had stroke, group 2-991 (98.4%) patient without this complication. Results. cva was more common in patients older than 70 years (p=0.02). copd, history of stroke, contralateral occlusion of internal carotid artery and atrial fibrillation were more often diagnosed in this group (p<0.0001). analysis showed correlation of cva with duration of internal carotid artery (ica) cross-clumping over 30 minutes (p=0.001), contralateral occlusion of internal carotid artery (p=0.01), previous stroke (0.009) and age over 70 years (p=0.05). Conclusion. data may be used to assess the risk of stroke after carotid endarterectomy.
