“…Service quality improvement and throughput: Our results suggest that most of the existing measures of OPD focus on patient waiting time followed by server idle time/overtime while other measures such as service quality improvement and throughput are seldom included. Our results align with a recent review of Gualandi et al 58 The service quality includes timeliness, efficiency, and patient-centered care. 69 Designing outpatient clinics with a focus on improving the quality of the patient experience (such as minimizing the walking distance of patients and healthcare members) and operational efficiency deserve research attention.…”

“…Patient flow: Patient flow management is multifaceted and driven by several internal and external key factors such as types of patients, levels of care required, the severity of patients, and internal communication. 58 Our analysis suggests that pathway-based patient flow (Table 11) such as directing patients on their arrival to optimal (operational) path using real-time information such as electronic medical record (EMR), 48 hybrid Gen2IR/radio frequency identification (RFID), 49 and RFID 50 have not received much attention. This supports the findings of Ahmadi-Javid et al 5 Application of process mining technology in healthcare to discover the patient flow through EHR log data and then use it to build a simulation model is a promising future research.…”

“…The type of surgery and stage of the patient journey formed the analysis groups. The study was part of a larger hospital project to redesign the orthopaedic patient journey for hip or knee replacement surgery, here starting with the patient experience [ 19 , 21 ]. In particular, the data collected by the hospital management to assess the quality of the service and that are presented in this work were integrated with interviews and the shadowing of patients, whose results are reported in other papers.…”

“…In our analysis, we also noted whether and how PA applications, their values, as well as relevant enablers and barriers have evolved between 2018 and 2022. Following Gualandi et al (2020), the data were coded in Italian, while the quotes were then translated and reported in English.…”
