Changes in Hand Properties of Cotton Crepe Fabrics after Wearing

Abstract: The aim of this study was to quantify the changes in hand properties of cotton piqué crepe fabrics in terms of mechanical and surface properties after actual wear. Three pairs of pajama pants were tailored from a cotton piqué crepe fabric and three long-term hospitalized patients wore the pants for 12 to 18 months. The mechanical and surface properties of the fabrics were measured using the KES-FB system and hand values were calculated. The tactile feel of the crepe fabrics was assessed before and after wear. … Show more

“…However, wear trials to measure changes in material properties are time consuming, and wearing conditions are difficult to control; hence, to date, few studies have been published. We examined the changes in the hand properties of cotton piqué crepe fabrics (Takashima chijimi) after wearing tests [8]. Three pairs of pajama pants were tailored from a cotton crepe fabric, and three long-term hospitalized patients wore the pants for 12 to 18 months.…”

“…Because the fabric retained good hand after repeated wear-wash cycles, we expect that the durability of these traditional cotton crepe fabrics will be an additional attractive feature for consumers. In this study, based on the previous investigation [8], we focused on worn men's undershirts.…”
