Changes in Lung Function and Anthropometric Parameters Post Training in Older Women

Abstract: s u m m a r yWe investigated the impact of two consecutive training sessions on spirometric and anthropometric parameters in 23 older healthy women. Spirometric and anthropometric measurements were taken before the program, after a short high-intensity training program, and again after 12-week regular mildintensity exercises. We found significant differences between vital capacity (VC)% at baseline versus after 2 weeks. The 12-week values were better than at baseline, but lower than those that had been achieve… Show more

“…This suggests that nonspecific exercise, such as walking, may have benefits on other muscle groups. 26 Handgrip strength may be another example, included here as a measure of overall muscular strength, endurance, 27 and frailty. 28 Although there were no specific weights or targeted hand exercises included in either intervention, grip strength appeared to improve over time.…”

“…Although the ET intervention did not include specific respiratory muscle training (unlike the MDR intervention, which did utilize inspiratory muscle training), VC still appeared to improve. This suggests that nonspecific exercise, such as walking, may have benefits on other muscle groups 26 . “…The beneficial effect of walking on various body systems has been demonstrated in many studies over the years [25,[46][47][48][49]. Many of the literary resources therefore agree that aerobic exercise in various forms, including walking, positively affects the lung function in seniors [37,40,50]. However, the results of previous studies on aerobic exercises and their impact on lung function have been inconsistent [50,51].…”

“…The keywords used to search the relevant studies that could be analysed in this review were established based on various studies dealing with walking intervention in elderly healthy people [37][38][39][40][41]. This review was limited to analysing randomized controlled trials only.…”
