Changes in the TBARs content and superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities in the lymphoid organs and skeletal muscles of adrenodemedullated rats

Abstract: Thiobarbituric acid reactant substances (TBARs) content, and the activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDh), citrate synthase (CS), Cu/Zn-and Mn-superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were measured in the lymphoid organs (thymus, spleen, and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN)) and skeletal muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) of adrenodemedullated (ADM) rats. The results were compared with those obtained for shamoperated rats. TBARs content was reduced by adrenodemedullatio… Show more

“…The frozen liver samples from each fish were thawed and homogenized using a teflon-glass Potter Elvejhem tissue homogenizer (1 min, 100 rpm) with 2 volumes of ice-cold medium containing 50 mM imidazole, 150 mM sucrose, 50 mM KCl, 1 mM EDTA and 2 mM reduced gluthatione (adjusted to pH 6.8 with HCl) (Mommsen et al, 1980). The homogenates were centrifuged at 10,000 g for 15 min at 4 o C (Pereira et al, 1998). The supernatants were used for glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px, E.C.…”

“…What is more, the sharp increase in the superoxide dismutase activity, without proper activation in catalase is cytotoxic. Catalase catalyzes the splitting of hydrogen peroxide with the formation of water and oxygen (Pereira et al, 1998;Bielenichev et al, 2002;. The change of catalase activity in the conditions of feeding bulls with food cadmium chloride is given in the table 2.…”

“…In support of this it is established that stress increases oxidative damage and affects the processes of DNA repair in cells [51,52]. On coherence between adrenaline and oxidative stress pointed Pereira et al [53]. Their fi ndings pointed that adrenaline regulates the activities of catalase and glutathione peroxidase, but the exact mechanism remains to be determined.…”
