Characterisation and Skin Distribution of Lecithin-Based Coenzyme Q10-Loaded Lipid Nanocapsules

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the inner lipid ratio on the physicochemical properties and skin targeting of surfactant-free lecithin-based coenzyme Q10-loaded lipid nanocapsules (CoQ10-LNCs). The smaller particle size of CoQ10-LNCs was achieved by high pressure and a lower ratio of CoQ10/GTCC (Caprylic/capric triglyceride); however, the zeta potential of CoQ10-LNCs was above /− 60 mV/ with no distinct difference among them at different ratios of CoQ10/GTCC. Both the crystallisat… Show more

“…[20] Particle size and polydispersity index of LNC are affected by several factors such as proportions of the constituents, viscosity of the lipid phase, and production conditions. [21] In this study, the effects of lipid and vitamin D 3 percentage on the average particle size of LNCs were investigated. As Table 3 revealed, all the prepared LNC have the mean particle size distribution in the range of 31.43-36.66 nm.…”

“…It is known that small size ensures close contact with the stratum corneum and can increase the amount of drug absorbed by the skin (12). Zhaou et al (30) reported that Q10 loaded lipid nanocapsules accumulated in both epidermis and dermis. Since oxidative stress affects several pathways, the delivery of Q10 into the skin is particularly important (31).…”

“…It is a lipid-soluble provitamin with low solubility in aqueous solutions (logP > 10) [116]. Therefore, SLNs, liposomes and other formulations have been explored as drug delivery vehicles for Coenzyme Q10 to facilitate penetration into the deeper layers of skin [117].…”
