Characterisation of 2-HP-β-cyclodextrin-PLGA nanoparticle complexes for potential use as ocular drug delivery vehicles

Abstract: Aim: 2-HP-b-cyclodextrin-PLGA nanoparticle complexes were prepared to enhance the aqueous humour delivery of Triamcinolone acetonide. Materials & methods: Drug-loaded 2-HP-b-CD/PLGA nanoparticle complexes prepared by adapting a quasi-emulsion solvent evaporation technique. In vitro drug release, in vitro transcorneal permeation study, histopathological study and in vivo transcorneal penetration of PLGA nanoparticles and 2-HP-b-CD/PLGA nanoparticle complexes were evaluated. Results: Particle size distributions … Show more

“…The absorption-desorption isotherms of the samples AgNPs shown in Figure 5 presents the type IV hysteresis phenomenon interpreted to be Slit-like pores in AgNPs pair combined with a type II isotherm presumed to be without pores. Based on the Barrett-Joiner-Halenda (BJH) model, the results were found to be surface area (12.861 m 2 /g), pore volume (0.037 cc/g), and pore radius (24.50 nm) [38]. BJH pore size distribution curves of AgNPs are shown in Figure 6.…”

“…The IC is widely used to solve the problems with solubility, degradability or bioavailability of drugs in physiological condition. The simplest method to introduce IC to polymeric NPs is based on the physical mixing of components before NPs formation [27,38]. However, the most attractive approach is to attach β-CD to the polymer chain before the formation of IC and NPs.…”

“…Cyclodextrins have been of interest for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry for many years [1–5]. Native cyclodextrins have been employed to improve physical stability of submicron emulsions for dermal delivery; skin permeation of incorporated drugs can be enhanced [6].…”
