Characteristic Activity Parameters of Electron Donors and Electron Acceptors

Abstract: It is well-known that for an electron transfer reaction, the electron-donating ability of electron donors and the electron-accepting ability of electron acceptors can be quantitatively described by the oxidation potential of electron donors and the reduction potential of electron acceptors. However, for an electron transfer reaction, the electron-donating activity of electron donors and the electron-accepting activity of electron acceptors cannot be quantitatively described by a characteristic parameter of ele… Show more

“…Δ G ET (X •+ /H • ) could be computed by a combination of the oxidation potential of H • and the reduction potential of X •+ , E ox (H • ), and E red (X •+ ), by eq 2 in Table , Δ G ET (X •+ /H • ) = F [ E ox (H • ) – E red (X •+ )]. Among eq , E ox (H • ) was reported as −2.307 V versus Fc in AN, while the E red (X •+ ) (V vs Fc) of 120 X •+ in AN were available from the published literature and displayed in the third column of Table S1.…”

“…Δ G HA (X •+ ) values of 120 X •+ in AN are presented in the last column of Table S1. What is more, the Δ G HA (X •+ ) values, E red (X •+ ) values, and p K a (XH + ) values of 120 X •+ in AN are also displayed in Scheme .…”

“…The H-accepting abilities of three regular types of oxygen radicals including the N–O˙ radical, C–O˙ radical, and C–O–O˙ radical and one type of nitrogen radical, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH˙), were investigated using Δ G ≠o (X) ( Chart 4 ). 17 In addition, this parameter is also widely used in the hydride transfer reaction 18 and electron transfer reaction, 19 and is being studied in the proton transfer reaction and Lewis acid–base coupling reaction. It is proposed using a kinetic equation ( eqn (1) ), which is based on the classical transition state model of chemical reaction, and considers that the fracture and formation of the chemical bonds of reactants in the process of chemical reaction follow the Morse free energy curve variation law.…”
