Characteristic Test of HTS Pancake Coil Modules for Small-Sized SMES

Abstract: In this paper, 16 HTS pancake coil modules made with 32 double pancake coils were designed, analyzed, built, assembled, and tested to show feasibility of small sized HTS SMES ( -SMES). Rated current is 200 A and operating temperature is 20 30 K. Evolution strategy was used for coil optimization and FEM was used for magnetic field calculation.
