Characteristics and Prognostic Factors of Bone Metastasis in Patients With Colorectal Cancer

Abstract: The location of colorectal cancer correlates significantly with the site of bone metastasis; the prognosis of patients with bone metastasis from colorectal cancer is very poor, and the significant prognostic factors are number of extra-bone metastatic organs, hypercalcemia, and pathologic fractures. “…The CSS did not differ significantly between the two groups (P = 0.571) in univariate analysis. Hidetaka et al also found there is no significant difference in survival between metachronous and synchronous groups after BM diagnosis(P = 0.59) [8].…”

“…Effective prognostic assessment is crucial for CRC patients diagnosed with synchronous BM. However, there is no complete evaluating system to accurately estimate the prognosis of this group of patients for physicians (6)(7)(8) . The nomogram, a simple statistical predictive tool, is able to predict the survival and prognosis of BM more accurately for CRC patients with visualization results, which can further improve the compliance and therapeutic effect of patients.…”

“…Kawamura et al [ 2 ] aimed to identify the prognostic factors and characteristics associated with survival in 104 CRC patients with bone metastases. The spine was the most common site, mostly in left-sided CRC, followed by pelvis, whereas right-sided CRC was correlated with long bone metastases.…”
