Characterization of an Acidic Polysaccharide from the Seeds ofMalva verticillataStimulating the Phagocytic Activity of Cells of the RES1

Abstract: An acidic polysaccharide, designated as MVS-IVA, was isolated from the seeds of Malva verticillata. It showed a remarkable reticuloendothelial system potentiating activity in the carbon clearance test. Chemical and spectroscopic studies demonstrated that the polysaccharide is rich in alpha-L-arabinofuranose residues and possesses mainly an alpha-1,5-linked L-arabino-beta-3,6-branched-D-galactan structure accompanied with rhamnogalacturonan type units. Both alpha-1,3-linked L-arabinopyranose and beta-1,4-linked… Show more

“…Blood samples were drawn from the retro-orbital plexus at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 min. The blood (25 µl) was dissolved in 0.1% sodium carbonate (2ml) and the absorbance was measured at 660 nm [18]. The phagocytic index, K, was calculated by equation:…”

“…album meyvalarının sulu ekstresinden asidik arabinogalaktan ya pısında visik asit izole edilmiş ve bu poliholozitin gösterdiği antitümör aktivite üç immünolojik test çalışmasıyla incelenmiştir. Arabinogalaktan, in vitro insan granülosit testinde, fagositoz aktiviteyi arttırırken, in vivo fare karbonklerans testinde, klerans oranında bir artış meydana getirmek tedir (18,19).…”

“…Seeds of M. verticillata, commonly known as Dong Kui Zi or Donggyuja, have been used to enhance kidney strength, remove renal stones, and treat chronic mastitis and hypogalactia in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) [9,10]. M. verticillata seeds contain various polysaccharides and flavonoids with a number of pharmacological activities including hypoglycemic activity [11][12][13]. In TCM, herbal medicine is used to invigorate kidney function so as to strengthen musculoskeletal organs such as bone [14,15].…”
