“…sahonicida is genetically homogenic throughout the world, and plasmid profiling is of little value in identifying the source of infection during outbreaks of furunculosis in salrnonids (Ssrum et al 1993). The present study shows, however, that the plasmid profiles vary between isolates of atypical A. salmonicjda, an observation also shown by Bast et al (1988), Pedersen et al (1996), Hanninen & Hirvela-Koski (1997), and Austin et al (1998). The majority of atypical A. salmonicida strains (95) could be divided into 7 different groups (I to VII) based on similarity in plasmid profiles.…”

“…salmonicida. However, the isolates with brown-diffusible pigment obtained from loch sediment, with profiles of '5432004' and '5570544' (these became '5430004' 2 months later), could not be identified with the API 20NE Profile Index, although such variation in the results with API 20NE has been noted previously for A. salmonicida, with many different profiles accommodating bona fide representatives of the taxon (Austin and Austin 1993;Austin et al 1998). Furthermore, the sediment isolates of A. salmonicida were not pathogenic to rainbow trout.…”

“…salmonicida (American Type Culture Collection 14174, Rockville, MD, USA). The Aeromonas isolates were examined for the phenotypic traits described by Austin et al ( , 1998 and compared with the characteristics in Popoff (1984). All cultures were examined by the API 20NE rapid identification system (bioMérieux, Basingstoke, UK), with incubation at 25°C for 48 h. Whole cell agglutination of the sediment isolates of A. salmonicida was carried out with monospecific antiserum to A. salmonicida (titre 1:−8192; Austin et al 1998) produced in a New Zealand white rabbit (Schill et al 1989).…”

“…It was found that SpaC, PknG and NanH presented better vaccine potential than SodC. Aeromonas hydrophila (A. hydrophila) causes aeromoniasis in fish [171]. Rauta et al [172] analyzed two antigenic outer membrane protein (Aha1) peptides as DNA vaccine candidates including them in a nanoparticle-based delivery system.…”
