Characterization of Pontibacter altruii , sp. nov., isolated from a human blood culture

Abstract: The genus Pontibacter is a recent addition to the family Cytophagaceae, phylum Bacteroidetes. Previous reports of its cultivation and molecular detection are from a variety of environmental sources, including marine and desert habitats. We report the first description of a Pontibacter sp., which was initially identified as Elizabethkingia meningoseptica, isolated from a human clinical specimen. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence, unique mass spectral profile and phenotypic characterization, this isolate re… Show more

“…Pontibacter sp. strain SGAir0037 is an orange-pigmented bacterium and presents as rod-shaped cells under scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which is similar to what is found with previously reported members within this genus (6). SGAir0037 was isolated from an aerosol sample collected in Singapore (1.346N, 103.680E).…”

“…Temperature, pH and NaCl tolerance for growth were determined using optimum media for each strains. Growth at different temperatures (4,10,15,20,25,30,35, 40 and 45 °C) was accessed after 5 days of incubation. Growth at various concentrations of NaCl (0-0.5 and 1.0-10.0%, at increments of 1.0%, w/v) was tested in R2A medium at pH 7.0 for 10 days at 30 °C.…”

“…Additional enzyme activities, biochemical features and physiological characteristics were tested using the API ZYM, API 20NE and API 50 CH galleries (bioMérieux) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Additionaly, the antibiotic sensitivity (µg per disc) of strain JH31 T and its reference strains to ampicillin (10), kanamycin (30), rifampicin (5), neomycin (30), tetracyclin (30), gentamycin (30), erythromycin (15), cefazolin (30) and ceftazidime (30) was investigated as described previously [44].…”
