Characterization of the AWARE 10 two-gigapixel wide-field-of-view visible imager

Abstract: System requirements for many military electro-optic and IR camera systems reflect the need for both wide-field-of-view situational awareness as well as high-resolution imaging for target identification. In this work we present a new imaging system architecture designed to perform both functions simultaneously and the AWARE 10 camera as an example at visible wavelengths. We first describe the basic system architecture and user interface followed by a laboratory characterization of the system optical performance… Show more

“…In the development of biomimetic compound-eye imaging system based on camera arraya, a number of large field of view and high resolution biomimetic compound-eye imaging systems have been developed. In terms of the development of scientific detection imaging equipment, a large field of view ultra-high pixel imaging system (aware-2) has been developed by the Duke University in the United States [ 9 ]. The system is composed of a concentric spherical lens and 98 micro camera arrays.…”

“…An inexpensive and simple focusing solution for MMS lens architectures is highly desirable. Several previous trials relying on piezoelectric motor have been successful but too expensive for mass production [5,19,20]. MFM based on VCM actuators provide a promising chance to resolve this challenge.…”
