“…The presence of the 41-kDa protein in pSVR'7-transformed cell lines and its absence in pSVRll-transformed cell lines suggests that this 41-kDa protein is encoded by the 12 S Ela messenger. The striking difference between the apparent molecular weight of this protein and its predicted value (26-kDa) has been discussed previously (Schrier et aL, 1979). In our experiments the product of the 13 S Ela messenger was not detected.…”

“…In both cell lines the Ad5 19 and 58 kD major EIb tumor antigens can be detected. The large EIb tumor antigens of Ad5 and Ad12, measuring 54 and 58 kD, respectively, are identical to the EIb tumor antigens of 60 kD (Ad12) and 65 kD (Ad5) described previously by us (Schrier et al, 1979;Jochemsen et uL, 1980). The differences in apparent molecular weights are explained by the different gel systems used.…”

“…Cell labeling with [?S]methionine and subsequent immunoprecipitation were performed as described previously (Schrier et al, 1979) with minor modifications. After labeling, the cells were scraped off in a small volume of IPB (20 mM triethanolamine-HCl, pH 8.0, 0.14 M NaCl, 0.5% NP40,0.2% DOC, 1 mlM PMSF, 0.1% trypsin inhibitor).…”

“…If this explanation is correct it would mean that normal transformation can only be obtained in the presence of 54kD Elb Tantigen or a sufficiently large N-terminal segment. Consistent with this view is the finding that the pl2dlAcc-transformed cells are morphologically identical to wildtype El-transformed cells, so that our previous conclusion that morphological transformation is a function of the 19kD Elb T-antigen (Schrier et aL, 1979) is presumably not correct.…”
