Characterizations of Gene Alterations in Melanoma Patients from Chinese Population

Abstract: Melanoma is a human skin malignant tumor with high invasion and poor prognosis. The limited understanding of genomic alterations in melanomas in China impedes the diagnosis and therapeutic strategy selection. We conducted comprehensive genomic profiling of melanomas from 39 primary and metastatic formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples from 27 patients in China based on an NGS panel of 223 genes. No significant difference in gene alterations was found between primary and metastasis melanomas. The statu… Show more

“…We observe different frequencies of BRAF and NRAS mutations in cases from North America and Europe than from Asia. Similar differences in distribution of genetic variants between Western countries and Asia have been also reported in cutaneous melanomas [28]. Patients from Europe have significantly better OS (p = 0.01) in comparison to those from North America and Asia in our study.…”

“…There is a big difference between melanoma in China and Caucasians in Europe and America. The differences in genetic etiological mechanisms, pathological morphology, biological behavior, treatment methods and prognosis are quite different (20,21). Therefore, in order to investigate the relationship between NLR and the response to anti-PD-1 antibody in Chinese melanoma patients, and to investigate the prognostic value of NLR for melanoma patients treated with chemotherapy, we conducted this retrospective study.…”

“…In Caucasians, acral melanomas have been found to have a higher number of CNVs than cutaneous melanomas (42,45). In contrast, in a Chinese cohort, a higher number of CNV amplifications were detected in non-CSD cutaneous melanomas than in acral melanomas (58). However, future molecular studies in patients with different ancestries are required to elucidate the relationship between ancestry and the mutational landscape of acral melanoma.…”
