Charge asymmetries of top quarks at hadron colliders revisited

Abstract: A sizeable difference in the differential production cross section of top-compared to antitopquark production, denoted charge asymmetry, has been observed at the Tevatron. The experimental results seem to exceed the theory predictions based on the Standard Model by a significant amount and have triggered a large number of suggestions for "new physics". In the present paper the Standard Model predictions for Tevatron and LHC experiments are revisited. This includes a reanalysis of electromagnetic as well as wea… Show more

“…We observe that the EW correction is particularly relevant for the first moment a 1 where it exceeds the size of the error estimate of the NNLO QCD. This finding is in line with the well-recognized importance of EW corrections for the inclusive A FB [113][114][115][116].…”

“…The latter might be underestimated due to higher-order QCD and electroweak effects [5] (see also the impact of the renormalization scale uncertainty [6]), yet the above series of observations is certainly worth exploring in the context of NP beyond the SM. There are two LHC measurements of direct relevance to the top A tt FB : the tt differential cross section as a function of M tt and the charge asymmetry (A C ) in tt production.…”
