Although sporadically occurs almost throughout the world: in North, Central and South America, Africa, Eurasia and New Zealand (Zander & Eckel, 2007), in SE Europe, it is a very rare species, known from Romania (Sabovljević et al, 2008) where it is considered as near threatened (NT) species (Ştefănuţ & Goia, 2012).
