Chemical Compositions and Experimental and Computational Modeling of the Anticancer Effects of Cnidocyte Venoms of Jellyfish Cassiopea andromeda and Catostylus mosaicus on Human Adenocarcinoma A549 Cells

Abstract: Nowadays, major attention is being paid to curing different types of cancers and is focused on natural resources, including oceans and marine environments. Jellyfish are marine animals with the ability to utilize their venom in order to both feed and defend. Prior studies have displayed the anticancer capabilities of various jellyfish. Hence, we examined the anticancer features of the venom of Cassiopea andromeda and Catostylus mosaicus in an in vitro situation against the human pulmonary adenocarcinoma (A549)… Show more

“…The 18 most investigated apoptotic receptors were obtained from prior studies [ 22 ]. We then utilized AutoDock 4 [ 23 ] to examine the binding affinity of all 22 triterpenes in the extracts of various sea cucumbers that have previously shown anti-lung cancer properties against these apoptotic receptors.…”

“…The cytotoxicity of jellyfish venom, such as that of Pelagia noctiluca against colon cancer cells and Cassiopea andromeda against breast cancer cells, is attributed to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), the stimulation of lipid peroxidation, and damage to mitochondria (Ayed et al, 2011). On a variety of cancer cell lines, including those from the brain, colon, lung, and liver, jellyfish venom or isolated peptides have anti-proliferative effects (Zare et al, 2023).…”
