Chemical constituents from leaves of Palicourea coriacea (Rubiaceae)

Abstract: (E)-methyl-4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxycinnamate, (E)-methyl-4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamate, (E)-methyl-4-hydroxycinnamate, (Z)-methyl-4-hydroxycinnamate, calycanthine, ursolic acid, 2-hydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone, 4-methoxybenzoic acid, 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and allantoin were isolated from the leaves of Palicourea coriacea (Cham.) K. Schum. The structures were deduced by spectral data analysis and comparison with literature values.

“…Compounds 3 (17 mg, 0.00085%, Figure 1) and 4 (12 mg, 0.0006%, Figure 1) were isolated from the ethanolic and methanolic extracts, respectively (Figure 2). The structures of 1 – 4 were confirmed by comparison of their NMR, MS, UV and IR spectra with those reported previously [8,9,10,11]. The HMBC correlations of compounds 1 – 4 are given in Figure 2.…”

“…The alkaloids isolated in this survey correspond well to various other phytochemical studies on Palicourea s.l. species in which strictosidine and ß-carboline derivatives were reported (e.g., Berger et al, 2012;da Silva et al, 2008;do Nascimento et al, 2006do Nascimento et al, , 2008Valverde et al, 1999).…”
