Chemical speciation and bioavailability of cadmium and lead in the gray calcium soil

Abstract: A pot experiment was conducted to study chemical speciations and bioavailability of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in the gray calcium soil from northwestern China, and accumulation and translocation of Cd and Pb in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown on the soil was also studied. The results showed that significant changes of Cd and Pb fractions in the soil and Cd and Pb concentrations in the wheat were observed with increasing soil Cd and Pb concentrations, and both Cd and Pb in exchangebale fraction in the soil … Show more

“…The concentration of Cd and Pb in soil can increase due to wastewater irrigation. Studies have shown that heavy metals such as Cd and Pb can accumulate in soil and crops due to using contaminated water for irrigation [ [39] , [40] , [41] , [42] ]. The concentration of Cd and Pb in soil can also be affected by weathering and chemical reactions in the soil [ 7 ].…”

“…The metal concentration in roots is known to be highly related to the metal speciation in the soil solution (Yang et al, 2019). Prior to this study, we have assessed HM speciation in SDS.…”
