ChemInform Abstract: Flashlamp Pumping of Erbium‐Doped Silicon Nanoclusters.

Abstract

2001 luminescence, fluorescence luminescence, fluorescence (solids and liquids) D 6540 -011Flashlamp Pumping of Erbium-Doped Silicon Nanoclusters.-Broad-band white light and flashlamp pumping using a standard camera flashgun of Er 3+ ions implanted into thin films of SiO 2 containing Si nanoclusters is observed for the first time. Indirect excitation of the Er ions is mediated by the nanoclusters, which are either grown during plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of the films, or are formed by implantation of thermally grown SiO 2 layers with Si + ions. Efficient flashlamp pumping of the Er 1535 µm photoluminescence band is demonstrated. The efficiency of this process suggests that flashlamp-pumped Er-doped optoelectronic components are feasible. This is particularly attractive for use in local networks and integrated systems in which the cost of the pump source is an important design factor. -(KENYON, A. J.; CHRYSSOU, C. E.; PITT, C.
