210ChemInform Abstract The title compound (IV) is prepared via (IIIa) by reacting the olefin (Ia) with cyanacetic acid (II). Using the olefin (Ib), the corresponding intermediate (IIIb) can be converted to the pyridone (V) under the same conditions.
