Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale-Short Form: The Turkish Adaptation, Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Child-Adolescent Perfectionism Scale-Short Form (CAPS-SF) developed by Bento et al. (2020). In the study, 364 children and adolescents (110 males; 254 females) aged 10 to 22 years participated. Construct validity of the scale was tested by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). In order to test the criterion validity, the correlation coefficients between CAPS-SF and Positive-Negative Perfectionism Scale (PNPS), Short Form of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire were calculated. The sub-dimensions of the CAPS-SF were found to be positively correlated with the two sub-dimensions of the PNPS. The reliability of the scale was tested by internal consistency coefficient, item-total statistics, and extreme group method. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be .80. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the model's goodness of fit was satisfactory (x 2 /sd=2.87, GFI=.956, AGFI=.924, CFI=.956, RMSEA=.072, RMR=.045). According to CFA, factor loadings ranged from .48 to .81. According to EFA, factor loadings ranged from .55 to .88. As a result of the CFA and EFA, CAPS-SF was found to have a two-factor structure similar to the original scale. In conclusion, the Turkish version of the CAPS-SF, which has adequate psychometric properties, was found to be validand reliable for Turkish culture.
