Chiral Separations

Abstract: The main goal of this review is to provide a brief overview of chiral separations to researchers who are versed in the area of analytical separations but unfamiliar with chiral separations. To researchers who are not familiar with this area, there is currently a bewildering array of commercially available chiral columns, chiral derivatizing reagents, and chiral selectors for approaches that span the range of analytical separation platforms (e.g., high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, supe… Show more

“…Several recent reviews on indirect enantioseparation of AAs and related compounds treat the use of MR together with other CDRs [7,[11][12][13]. In continuation of previous reviews/reports on the use of MR for HPLC [14,15] or TLC [16,17] here we focus on newer developments on the use of MR and new variants for the determination of the stereochemistry of protein and non-protein AAs with emphasis on natural products and biological and medical applications.…”

“…Chiral separation has important applications in many fields such as in pharmaceutical or agricultural biotechnology [59]. Obliged by the chirality of nature, synthetic pharmaceutics are often chiral compounds.…”

“…Among various techniques, the liquid chromatographic CSP technique is one of the most accurate, convenient and economical (Luykx & van Ruth, 2008;Lämmerhofer, 2010;Stalcup, 2010;Subramanian, 2007). In particular, liquid chromatographic crown ether-based CSPs have been successfully utilised to separate two enantiomers of various amino acids and to determine the optical purity of various amino acids without derivatisation (Hyun & Choi, 2007).…”

“…Chiral chromatography utilising chiral stationary phases (CSPs) has become an efficient tool to determine enantiomeric purity and to isolate pure enantiomers. CSPs for the liquid chromatographic separation of amino acid enantiomers and their derivatives have been derived from cyclodextrin, macrocyclic antibiotics, designed p-p stacking molecules, cellulose derivatives, proteins, and chiral crown ethers (Lämmerhofer, 2010;Stalcup, 2010;Yu & Wu, 2001).…”
