Chitinimonas naiadis sp. nov., Isolated from a Freshwater River

Abstract: A rod shaped, aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, and motile bacterium, strain AR2, was isolated from a water sample of Yeongsan river, Republic of Korea. Strain AR2 clustered closely with the members of the genus and showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with LY03 (96.4%), HMD2169 (96.4%), cf (96.2%), and R2A43-10 (94.2%). The predominant fatty acids of strain AR2 were identified to be summed feature 3 (comprising C and/or C), C, and C3-OH. Diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and phosphatid… Show more

“…The predominant respiratory isoprenoid quinone of strain R3-44 T was ubiquinone-8 (Q-8), which was consistent with other members of the genus Chitinimonas [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The major fatty acids (relative amount >7.0 %) of strain R3-44 T were summed feature 3 (comprising C 16 : 1 ω7c and/or C 16 : 1 ω6c, 40.6 %) and C 16 : 0 (29.3 %).…”

“…The genus Chitinimonas was first isolated from a shrimp-farming pond and proposed to represent a distinct genus within the family Burkholderiaceae with the unique ability to degrade chitin [9]. Currently, seven species have been recognized within the genus Chitinimonas : Chitinimonas taiwanensis [9], Chitinimonas koreensis [10], Chitinimonas viridis [11], Chitinimonas prasina [12], Chitinimonas naiadis [13], Chitinimonas lacunae [14] and Chitinimonas arctica [15]. The genus Chitinivorax was first isolated from a freshwater lake; only one species has been recognized within the genus Chitinivorax , namely Chitinivorax tropicus [16].…”
