“…It has been shown in model experiments using simple phenols that chlorine in aqueous solution brings about a small amount of oxidative coupiing (Sato and Mikawa 1960), a reaction type usuaily attributed to the involvement of radical species. However, participation of chlorine radicals to a small extent cannot be entirely excluded.…”

“…The HMBC correlations of the H-3/H-3′ resonance at δH 6.73 between C-1/C-1′ and C-2/C-2′ (δC 147.3) indicated that the methoxy group was located at C-2/C-2′ which was further supported by the NOESY correlation between the resonances for H-3/H-3′ and the methoxy group ( Figure S1). Compound 2 has been synthesized earlier, however, this is the first report of this compound as a natural product (Sato et al 1960 andHorner et al 1963). Thus, compound 2 was identified as 4,4′-dihydroxy-2,2′-dimethoxybiphenyl and was named as mckeaninabiphenyl.…”

“…So far, a few studies have been conducted on the phytochemistry and biological properties of Garcinia mckeaniana ( Auranwiwat et al, 2016 ; Ha et al, 2021 ; Nguyen et al, 2021 ; Thi Thu et al, 2021 ). The biphenyl ( 19 ) was denominated as mckeaninabiphenyl and had been synthesized previously ( Sato and Mikawa, 1960 ). This was the first time that it was reported as a natural phytochemical.…”
