Choroidal and skin metastases from colorectal cancer

Abstract: Choroidal and skin metastasis of colon cancer is rare. In women, the frequency of cutaneous metastasis from colon cancer as the primary lesion in is 9% and skin metastasis occurs in 0.81% of all colorectal cancers. We report a patient with colonic adenocarcinoma who presented with visual disorder in her right eye and scalp pain as her initial symptoms. Contrast-enhance orbital magnetic resonance imaging with fat suppression revealed an infrabulbar mass, and skin biopsy of the posterior parietal scalp confirmed… Show more

“…If a cancer begins as one cell, then even a 1 mm melanoma has a malignant cell population at least in the thousands. 2 This proposal is also consistent with stem cell theory that melanomas could develop from quiescent precursor cells that have accumulated a malignant complement of mutations. 3 Any model proposed for melanomas developing from nevi, at best, can only be applied to a minority of melanomas, being fundamentally flawed for the vast majority which are known to develop de novo.…”

“…1 CM may rarely be present at the time of diagnosis of an internal malignancy. While single case reports of various cancers with cutaneous metastasis have been reported, [2][3][4][5] longitudinal retrospective or prospective studies of patients with malignancies should be undertaken to delineate malignancies commonly presenting with cutaneous metastasis and their respective clinical presentations. Our study aims to examine the clinical and morphological presentation, and histological subtypes of CM seen in a tertiary healthcare institution.…”
