Chronic pancreatitis

Abstract: Early diagnosis of pancreatitis may be improved by newer techniques associated with endoscopic ultrasonography imaging. Treatment of nutritional deficiencies and diabetes is an important aspect of treating chronic pancreatitis. Pain relief with adjunct means of pain modulation should be tried before starting narcotics for pain control. Endoscopic therapy is appropriate for treating chronic pancreatitis and its local complications and surgical intervention can be considered early in carefully selected individua… Show more

“…Nutritional insufficiency might cause protein–energy malnutrition, and decreased immune functions, particularly cell‐mediated immunity . The long‐time complications of chronic pancreatitis are recurrent abdominal pain, malabsorption (due to exocrine dysfunction), and inadequate intake of food (due to alcoholism and/or abdominal pain) . These complications lead to subsequent nutritional insufficiency , which lead to progressively declined immunity .…”

Thus, it further increases the likelihood of the reactivation of latent varicella‐zoster virus among patients with nutritional insufficiency, including those patients with chronic pancreatitis.…”

“…Chronic pancreatitis is a well-defined disease induced by repetitive acute injury or a self-perpetuating inflammatory process. 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 Constant tissue damage in cases of this disease leads to excessive stromal formation and, ultimately, exocrine insufficiency. 50 Chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer have the similar property in that they bear large portions of the stroma.…”
