CICAFAST: comparison of a biological dressing composed of fetal fibroblasts and keratinocytes on a split-thickness skin graft donor site versus a traditional dressing: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: BackgroundWound repair is one of the most complex biological processes of human life. Allogeneic cell-based engineered skin substitutes provide off-the-shelf temporary wound coverage and act as biologically active dressings, releasing growth factors, cytokines and extracellular matrix components essential for proper wound healing. However, they are susceptible to immune rejection and this is their major weakness. Thanks to their low immunogenicity and high effectiveness in regeneration, fetal skin cells represe… Show more

“…In that case, he or she is at high risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Doctors treating survivors of a nightclub fire in Rhode Island in February 2003 gave them anti-anxiety medication within days of the tragedy in order to reduce their risk of PTSD (Parnham et al, 2018;Poinas et al, 2019).…”

“…Apligraf ® has been approved as an allograft in several countries for the treatment of acute wounds (95). Randomized controlled trials conducted by Poinas et al have shown that biological dressings composed of foetal fibroblasts and keratinocytes show low immunogenicity and high regeneration efficiency, and they are expected to substitute skin allografts (96).…”

“…been reached so far. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] The ideal split-thickness skin graft donor site dressing should be comfortable, not require repeated dressing changes, promote healing and avoid the long-term complication of hypertrophy. [18][19][20][21][22] To the best of our knowledge, this study is unique as there has been no previous study on indexed English literature review comparing the effectiveness of amnion versus calcium alginate on split-thickness skin graft donor sites.…”
