Circular RNA UBE2Q2 promotes malignant progression of gastric cancer by regulating signal transducer and activator of transcription 3-mediated autophagy and glycolysis

Abstract: Gastric cancer remains the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Emerging evidence has shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a critical regulatory role in the occurrence and development of various cancers through sponging miRNAs or acting as RNA-binding protein (RBP) sponges. We found that circUBE2Q2 was significantly upregulated in GC tissues and cell lines. Knockdown of circUBE2Q2 inhibited proliferation, migration, invasion, and glycolysis, and increased autophagy in vitro. In additi… Show more

“…The circRNA circRPL15 , up-regulated in GC tissues and correlated with short survival, enhances GC cell migration and invasion, and inhibits apoptosis by sequestering miR-502-3p from the OLFM4 mRNA to activate the STAT3 pathway [ 72 ]. A similar ceRNA mechanism also applies to circUBE2Q2 , which interacts with miR-370-3p to relieve the inhibitory effect on its target STAT3 in GC, promoting proliferation, glycolysis, and metastasis [ 73 ].…”

“…Although the function of CircUBE2Q2 to promote differentiation of cattle MuSCs was identified in this study, the modification pathways and biological processes involved in its ability to regulate muscle cell differentiation need to be further elucidated. Interestingly, previous reports claimed that circUBE2Q2 induced gastric cancer by promoting cell proliferation acceleration [ 50 ]. This may be due to factors of different species, cells, and sequences that cause differences in the function of circUBE2Q2.…”

“…Knockdown of circUBE2Q2 inhibited GC cell proliferation, invasion, tumorigenicity, and increased autophagy through the circUBE2Q2/miR-370-3p/STAT3 axis. 63 It is reported that circ0032821 induced the proliferation, EMT, migration, and invasion and inhibited autophagy of GC cells by activating the MEK1/ERK1/2 signaling pathway. 64 CircKIAA0907 is reported to be downregulated in GC.…”
