Classification of Congenital and Acquired Penile Deviation

Abstract: In addition to sonography and the classical diagnostic tools, a new method for the accurate classification of congenital and acquired penile deviation is made possible by using autophotography, ‘five-line system’ to determine the angle of deviation, and the table for ‘classification of Peyronie’s disease’. It is suggested that the wide use of this new method of documentation would lead to a better comparison of the results and understanding of the disease.

“…Preoperative evaluation included an in-depth history of onset and duration of PD-specific symptoms, prior PD-specific treatment and general medical history. Auto-photographic documentation determined degree, direction, shape, and severity of penile curvature, as described in detail previously [17]. Physical examination and penile ultra-sonography determined location, number, and size of plaques of the tunica albuginea of the penis.…”

“…Under artificial erection, during the surgery, we analyzed the degree of penile deviation using Kelami's classification 10 . At the end of the follow-up, we measured it again after inducing an erection with intracavernous injection (ICI) of alprostadil 10 μg.…”

“…The procedure was repeated for the contralateral space. (Kelâmi, 1983) and a digital protractor. The SPL was measured using a calibre, from the base (pubo-penile junction) to the tip of the glans (meatus) on the dorsal aspect of the penis (Greenstein, Dekalo, & Chen, 2020).…”
