the article presents the results of a theoretical substantiation of the relevance of the problem of developing rural social infrastructure. The theoretical foundations of the study of this problem are substantiated, and basic concepts on the research topic are formulated. The essential economic characteristics of rural areas are identified and schematically presented. The classification characteristics of rural areas are analyzed and systematized.
