Clerodane and ent‐Kaurane Diterpene Glycosyl and Glycoside Derivatives from the Leaves of Casearia sylvestris

Abstract: Five new clerodane diterpene glycosyl derivatives, caseariasides A -E (1 -5, resp.) and three new ent-kaurane diterpene glucosides, sylvestrisides C -E (6 -8, resp.) were isolated from the leaves of Casearia sylvestris. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analyses.

“…A previous study [33] with ARA/SP, CAM/SP, MOG/SP, and PRE/SP samples selected two peaks from the chromatograms and included the clerodane-type diterpenes (casearins) detected at 235 nm. Other chemical investigations have isolated 41 clerodane-type diterpenes, including casearins [5964] and casearvestrins [65].…”

“…Caseobliquin A 29 is a cytotoxic trans clerodane that was isolated 102 from C. obliqua, which is a tree that grows in the Amazon and which has attracted interest because of its anti-malarial activity. There have been a number of investigations [103][104][105][106] of a Brazilian species, C. sylvestris, which has afforded both cis-(casearins U and X) and trans-clerodanes (caseariside A). The argutins, which possess a similar structure to caseobliquin A, were obtained 107 from C. arguta.…”
