Clinical and Gross Pathological Investigations of Internal Laying in Commercial Layer Chicken

Abstract: | Avian oviduct is a tubular organ and its muscular contraction responsible for recurring ovum transportation, egg formation, oviposition, sperm transport and fertility. Any defect in oviduct motility may have a great bearing on the above said functions and also results in internal laying or ectopic oviposition. Modern commercial layer are highly prolific and susceptible to internal laying however their prevalence, nature and significance is not known. Hence a study was undertaken to assess the prevalence and … Show more

“…Srinivasan et al . [39] have noted “false layer” syndrome as an explanatory indication of poultry health condition that may show a normal egg production but actually infected. The infection can be confirmed during a necropsy, in which the body cavity of a chicken is filled with fluids or coagulated yolk.…”

“…Meanwhile, Srinivasan et al . [39] have also noted penguin-like stance as probably being caused by progressive accumulation yolk material, partially or fully along with an inflammatory exudate in the abdominal cavity. Then, a discovery of ovarian cyst alongside drops in egg production at chicken samples is also indications of “false layer” syndrome, as suggested by Landman et al .…”

“…Caged layer fatigue owing to the excess demand for calcium for frequent egg laying includes not only osteopenia but also oviductal inertia because muscle contraction requires calcium [3]. Laying hens spontaneously increase the risk of ovarian cancer with aging, along with decreased egg productivity [4,5]. In addition to genetic factors, rearing circumstances, aging, and infectious diseases also affect the reproductive function of laying hens.…”

“…In addition to genetic factors, rearing circumstances, aging, and infectious diseases also affect the reproductive function of laying hens. Among the common reproductive disorders in laying hens, internal laying and egg-bound syndrome are well-known to reduce egg productivity, and are fatal in severe cases [4,6].…”
