Clinical Application of the DiversiLab Microbial Typing System Using Repetitive Sequence‐Based PCR for Characterization of Helicobacter pylori in Japan

Abstract: We evaluated the DiversiLab (DL) system with universal primers, a semiautomated repetitive extragenic palindromic sequence-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (rep-PCR) system, for the characterization of Helicobacter pylori in Japan. All 135 isolates from Japanese patients with gastric cancer (GC, n = 55) or non-GC (n = 80) were used and subjected to the drug susceptibility examinations (amoxicillin, AMPC; metronidazole, MNZ; and clarithromycin, CAM) by E-test. There were 28 MNZ-resistant (20.7%), 35 CAM-re… Show more

“…Worldwide, colorectal cancer is the second most common form of cancer diagnosed in women and the third most common cancer in men [ 1 ]. Although the incidence and mortality rates of this type of cancer are now declining due to the development of novel diagnostic methods and treatments, early-stage rectal cancer is still difficult to diagnose [ 2 5 ]. Colonoscopy, followed by biopsy and histopathology, are considered to be the gold standard for the diagnosis of rectal cancer.…”

“…While the resistance rate of H . pylori to MTZ is relatively low in Southern Europe, Taiwan, and Japan (less than 20%) [ 34 36 ], it is high in Africa (75.8%) [ 13 ] and China (78.2%) [ 37 ]. The main reasons for the high MTZ resistance are its previous prescription for parasitic or gynecological infections [ 38 ], extensive availability, and affortability.…”
