Abstract: Refinements in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) equipment, including heparin-coated surfaces, centrifugal pump, membrane oxygenator, and more biocompatible pump-oxygenator circuits, have reduced procedure-related complications and have made ECMO a safe and effective therapy for critical patients.
