“…Adverse drug reactions did not differ signifi cantly between the 2 groups, except for the injection site hematomas that were more frequent in the LMW heparin group. In conclusion, LMW heparin appears of value in preventing the occurrence of DVT in an unselected elderly in-patient population.Age appears to be one of the most impor tant factors related to the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after surgery [1][2][3], In nonsurgical patients, only few and lim ited studies have been done [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11], Kakkar [12] found that DVT occurs in 30% of elderly patients suffering from various chronic con ditions, a frequency close to that observed after surgery. DVT prophylaxis would there fore be required in nonsurgical as well as in surgical patients.…”

“…Increased TEE risk has been suggested to be related not only to the presence of these individual risk factors, but also to the number of pre-disposing risk factors at baseline (Nicolaides and Irving 1975;Wheeler et al, 1982). In the present analysis five major pre-disposing risk factors for TEEs in patients receiving epoetin-b therapy were identified (age 465 years, previous thromboembolic event, coronary artery disease, hypertension and dyslipidemia).…”
