Clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness of computer‐guided versus conventional implant‐retained hybrid prostheses: A long‐term retrospective analysis of treatment protocols

Abstract: Computer-guided implant placement for an implant-supported hybrid prosthesis is a valid, reliable alternative to the traditional approach for implant placement and immediate loading. Computer-guided implant placement showed higher implant survival rates and comparable long-term cost to non-guided implant placement.

“…Nonetheless, the accuracy of implant placement only addresses one facet of sCAIP. Other relevant outcome measures are cost‐effectiveness (Joda, Derksen, Wittneben, & Kuehl, 2018; Ravida et al., 2018; Younes, Eghbali, De Bruyckere, Cleymaet, & Cosyn, 2019), patient's perception of treatment, impact on quality of life, and postoperative morbidity, which are variables that may determine the choice of implant placement modality in numerous clinical situations.…”

“…Among these factors is determining whether to use a prosthodontic component composed of splinted versus non‐splinted crowns (Ravida, Barootchi et al, ). Splinted crowns tend to distribute the occlusal forces placed on the implants, resulting in a less frequent occurrence of prosthodontic complications and decreased strain on the surrounding peri‐implant bone (Clelland, Chaudhry, Rashid, & McGlumphy, ; Yilmaz, Seidt, McGlumphy, & Clelland, ).…”

“…Such a limitation can be overcome by using two implants supported by a bridge (de Souza Batista et al, ). Furthermore, an often‐overlooked influencing factor is the cost (Ravida, Barootchi et al, ). The use of two versus three implants could likely influence the clinical decision of therapy.…”
