“…Sobbe, Haferkamp and Doepfmer (1966) found spermagglutinins in 6 % of 150 infertile men, a number closely agreeing with Fjallbrant's findings of 6.7 % in 400. Phadke and Padukone (1964) and Ansbacher, Manarang-Pangan and Srivannaboon (1971) claim that there is an increase in this antibody titre in men who have undergone vasectomy, and suggest that this may cause infertility in men even where successful reconstruction of the vasa has been accomplished by surgical reanastomosis.…”

“…There is no doubt that some cases of infertility result from women forming antibodies cytotoxic to spermatozoa. Isojima et al (1968) found such antibodies in the sera of three of twenty-five infertile women, and Ansbacher et al (1971) found agglutinating and cytotoxic antibodies in 11 -4% infertile women, but did not differentiate between the two tests. Cytotoxic antibodies were found in the cervical mucus of three women by Parish et al (1967), and in the mucus of two other women and in the serum of one by Parish & Ward (1968).…”

“…However, techniques to detect anti-spermatozoal antibodies differ considerably in most laboratories. In the agglutination test, for example, the antigen has been diluted whole semen (Schwimmer, Ustay & Behrman, 1967a, b;Isojima, Li & Ashitaka, 1968) or a suspension of washed spermatozoa (Kibrick, Belding & Merrill, 1952;Ansbacher, Manarang-Pangan & Srivannaboon, 1971). Spermatozoa were living or dead, and the test read macroscopically or microscopically.…”

“…because of cervical mucus "hostility" although this remains ill-understood and difficult to quantify. Rumke (1975) claims that only a Kibrick titre of greater than 1 : 32 is relevant to infertility and this correlates with the findings of Ansbacher, Keung-Yeung and Behrman (1973). Isojima c't u/.…”
