Clinicopathological factors related to cervical lymph node metastasis in a patient with carcinoma of the oral floor

Abstract: Univariate analysis showed significantly positive correlations for growth type, mitosis, perineural invasion, vascular invasion, lymphatic invasion, depth, thickness, and infiltration growth ratio. Multivariate analysis had a significantly positive correlation with nest formation and depth in all patients, and with thickness in patients with T1 or T2. In patients with bilateral cervical lymph node metastasis, lymph node metastasis was significantly positively correlated with perineural invasion.

“…23Y25 Vascular and perineural invasion apparently correlates with higher probability of regional and distant metastasis and lower 5-year survival rates in OSCC. 15,26 Oral cancers with muscular invasion have poor prognosis. 27 In this study, most cases show low TATE in 3 different areas.…”

“…These multiparametric grading schemes have been shown to be prognostically significant, but have failed to find favour in routine diagnostic practice, owing to their complexity. The individual component that is most strongly predictive of outcome in these grading systems is the POI at the deep aspect of the tumour . The RCPath has consequently incorporated assessment of the POI in their guidelines for the reporting of oral cavity SCC, using a simplified two‐tier classification system.…”

“…Vascular invasion has been significantly correlated with cancers of the floor of the mouth (Suzuki et al 2007), but there is a lack of information with respect to vascular invasion and LSCC. In this cohort, presence of vascular invasion ( p  = 0.0009) was a predictor of poor survival.…”
