Clinicopathological Role of Serum-Derived Hyaluronan-Associated Protein (SHAP)-Hyaluronan Complex in Endometrial Cancer

Abstract: The role of hyaluronan (HA), serum-derived HA-associated protein (SHAP)-HA complex and hyaluronan synthase (HAS) in endometrial carcinomas was investigated. The relationship of metalloproteinase (MMP) and its inhibitor (TIMP) with HA and the SHAP-HA complex was also examined. The expression of HAS1 was related to the depth of myometrial invasion and lymph-vascular space involvement. The serum levels of HA, SHAP-HA complex, MMP-9, and TIMP-1 were increased in related with the depth of myometrial invasion, histo… Show more

“…ITIH2 (inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 2), also known as SHAP, complexes with hyaluronan (HA) and plays a role in the inflammatory response. Serum levels of SHAP-HA have been associated with a poor outcome in ovarian and endometrial cancers(44, 45). High Glasgow scores, a measure of systemic inflammation, have been shown to be associated with poor outcomes for NSCLC in both smokers and never smokers, although more pronounced in smokers.…”

“…Heavy chains are transferred from chondroitin sulfate of IαI onto HA, with TSG-6 as a catalyst and co-factor [64,65]. Elevated SHAP-HA complex levels are found in the serum of cancer patients [66]. TSG-6 is also reported to bind to HA as oligomers, and to form complexes with pentraxin [67] and thrombospondin [68], bringing several HA molecules together.…”

“…Elevated serum levels of the SHAP-HA complex indicate poor prognosis in endometrial and ovarian cancers. [ 49 , 50 ] VCAN plays a role in intercellular signaling and in connecting cells with the ECM. It was reported that VCAN significantly increased in superficial spreading melanoma tissue and metastatic melanoma cell lines.…”
