Cloud computing architectures for mobile robotics

Abstract: in last decade, classic IT-infrastructures in modern enterprises have been changed sufficiently by cloud computing. However, cloud approach can be used effectively in other applications. In this paper, we explore applicability of cloud paradigm in mobile robotics. First approach is using some classic cloud architectures, such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service, with heterogeneous distributed mobile robotic system -for example, it can be used to offload a time consum… Show more

“…In this case, the cloud is used for off-loading computations (e.g. for stability control) from the remote robot [223]. The previously mentioned NFV is a complimentary technology to Mobile Cloud Computing inside the 5G technology framework which allows optimal distribution of "intelligence" inside the network.…”

“…This extensively improves robot intelligence and user experience ( Table 4 ) ( 119 ). Dyumin et al ( 120 ) proposed a structure for Cloud Robot, while in Ma et al ( 121 ) developed a household healthcare robot. In a word, the robot integrated with 5G and cloud computing has gradually become a hotspot in this field.…”

“…Furthermore, all these solutions for industrial communication are wired based, creating static connections. Wireless solutions have only been used for a limited number sensor systems, and communication infrastructure push toward ultra-flexible production systems [16]. Industrial mobile platforms enable temporary production cells in assembly stations.…”
