Coexistence of adenomyosis, adenocarcinoma, endometrial and myometrial lesions in resected uterine specimens

Abstract: The present study was conducted to identify endometrial and myometrial lesions coexisting with adenomyosis, and to evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics of endometrial adenocarcinomas associated with adenomyosis. A retrospective analysis of the resected uterine specimens of 319 patients with adenomyosis admitted between January 1, 2014 and August 1, 2017 was performed. The endometrial and myometrial lesions coexisting with adenomyosis were evaluated. The clinicopathological prognostic factors, inclu… Show more

“…However, others revealed that the presence of AM in EC is associated with improved survival in endometrial cancer [43][44][45] . The inflammatory and tissue responses arising around the foci of adenomyosis generate a preventive mechanism against the invasion of adenocarcinomas coexisting with adenomyosis 46 . This response is likely the primary mechanism responsible for the good clinical course of these tumors 46 .…”

In contrast, Taneichi et al 41 documented a high incidence of deep muscle invasion among cases of stage I EEC with AM.…”

“…Sedangkan pada wanita usia subur, polip endometrium dapat menyebabkan infertilitas (Lieng et al, 2010). Pathogenesis polip ini belum jelas, namun diduga berhubungan dengan respons terhadap stimulasi estrogen (Nijkang et al, 2019) yang berasal dari ekspresi berlebih dari aromatase endometrium (Pal et al, 2008) maupun yang berasal dari sistem sirkulasi (Tetikkurt et al, 2018).…”

“…The relationship between adenomyosis and endometrial cancer have been of interest for many years. While endometrial cancer co-existing with adenomyosis is common [3], endometrial carcinoma arising from endometrial cells within adenomyosis (EC-AIA) is rare. Here, we report the case of an asymptomatic endometrial carcinoma localized in an adenomyoma.…”
