Cognitive evoked potentials in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: a review of the literature

Abstract: Cognitive functions may be altered in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and it has been proposed that vigilance and attention changes play a fundamental role in all aspects of cognitive deficits noted in this disease. The use of event-related potentials (ERPs) is a high-time resolution technique that can be used to explore the presence of cognitive dysfunction. We review 23 empirical articles on ERPs in OSAS in order to contribute to the clarification of the pattern of cognitive deficits th… Show more

“…The distractor tone (novelty) elicits a P3a that has a frontal/central maximum amplitude distribution and frontal sources [13,14]. Normal aging especially disrupts frontal functioning [15]; there are also some diseases, such as sleep disorders, causing mild frontal deficits that can be studied with the P3a [16,17].…”

“…Peu de travaux ont utilisé la technique des potentiels évoqués pour évaluer le fonctionnement cognitif chez les patients SAOS [90]. La composante P300 a été la plus étudiée, essentiellement au cours de tâche oddball, qui consiste à détecter des stimuli rares survenant parmi des stimuli fréquents.…”
