Collaborative research on carbon reinforced concrete structures in the CRC/TRR 280 project

Abstract: New materials allow new building designs and construction types. However, initial construction projects using the new materials show that traditional construction principles ‐ in the case of carbon reinforced concrete those derived from steel reinforced concrete ‐ are still being used. In other words, conventional materials are merely substituted. Only combined with intelligent construction strategies it is possible to exploit the full potential of innovative materials. Detached from established patterns of th… Show more

“…Thus, for expansive concrete with carbon textile reinforcement another standard procedure is needed. The currently ongoing research project, “Chemical prestressing of folded and shell‐type carbon‐concrete structures” within the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 280 “Design Strategies for Material‐Minimised Carbon Reinforced Concrete Structures—Principles of a New Approach to Construction,” 25 aims to propose such a method.…”

“…Sustainability here means above all increasing energy and resource efficiency. Fibre-reinforced plastic composites (FRP), for example, for textile construction [1,2] or injection moulding applications [3,4], have great potential for the implementation of resource-saving and energy-efficient lightweight construction solutions due to the diverse possibilities of adapting their properties to the application requirements. With such solutions, advantages can be achieved, especially for components with complex geometry, if it is possible to reduce the previously high manufacturing costs of preforming with several, partly manual process steps and/or manufacturing steps [5,6].…”
