“…Insemination with ejaculated sperm produced conception rates of 13 to 40% in rhesus monkeys [Czaja et al, 1975;Dede and Plentl, 1966]. Likewise, 4-21% in chimpanzees [Gould et al, 1985], 17% in baboons [Kraemer & Cruz, 1969], and 25% in mayotten lemurs [Brun & Rumpler, 1989]. However, the resorption rate was higher than expected in the study reported here, possibly due to environmental stress which can have an adverse effect on fertility [Johnson et al, 1991].…”

“…Successful freezing of spermatozoa has been reported for cynomolgus monkeys [15,16,60,100], rhesus monkeys [55,77], baboons (Papio anubis) [46], squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) [19], African green monkeys [90], chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) [31], and gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) [38,49]. To freeze spermatozoa from cynomolgus monkeys, we prepared a semen-diluting medium, TTE (Tes, Tris, egg yolk base) [84].…”
