“…This conclusion is based on the following observations : (a) The mass spectrum of fractions VI and I1 corresponds to the suggested dienolide structures (Fig. 4); (b) The maximum ultraviolet absorbance of the material in fraction VI was 298 nm, an ultraviolet maximum characteristic of the dienolide system [25] ; (c) the digitalislike activity characteristic of steroids as delineated above. Our findings imply that the synthesis of six-membered cyclic unsaturated lactone steroids is not restricted to amphibian but is achieved by mammalian tissues as well.…”

“…Improved pharmacological approaches would therefore furnish researchers with suitable methods for obtaining pure serous secretions from skins with several gland types. Routine techniques of poison collection, which usually involve mechanical compression of living specimens (Meyer and Linde 1971) are not specific since the material spread over the body surface includes both poison products and mucus. As an alternative method, ether stimulation triggers systemic reactions, and requires preliminary manoeuvres of the animals to deplete the urinary bladder and avoid contamination by urine (Kiss and Michl 1962).…”

“…were collected from the vicinity of Kakatiya University hostel buildings, Warangal, A.P., India. The parotoid glands were gently pressed with the help of sterile forceps to release the secretions according to Meyer and Linde (1971) [13] and these secretions were collected into ice-jacketed containers. The secretions were weighed to nearest milligram.…”
