“…In some situations, overwintered L. decemlineata adults locate and invade rotated Þelds by walking (Lashomb andNg 1984, French et al 1993), thus entering through Þeld edge. The beetles may also locate a Þeld through ßight (Weber andFerro 1994, Ferro et al 1999) but still have Þrst contact within the perimeter.…”

“…Crop rotation for the Colorado potato beetle control had been first recommended as early as 1872 (Bethune 1872), and since then proved to be a good control strategy (Casagrande 1987). At the rotated field, peak density of the beetle egg masses could be 5-10% of that of the non-rotated field (Lashomb and Ng 1984;Wright 1984). Unfortunately, high beetle mobility necessitates a considerable separation between the rotated fields to maximize efficiency of this technique (Weisz et al 1994(Weisz et al , 1996Hough-Goldstein and Whalen 1996).…”

“…In addition, CPB has an unstable demographic structure due to its colonizing and hosting characteristics (Hare, 1990). Crop rotation is an effective means of slowing infestation of CPB presumably because of limited movement of CPB especially following overwintering (Lashomb and Ng, 1984;Wright, 1984). Lashomb and Ng (1984), Wright (1984), and Voss and Ferro (1985) have shown that, in rotated fields, peak densities are delayed, often resulting in reduced population sizes.…”

Lashomb and Ng (1984), Wright (1984), and Voss and Ferro (1985) have shown that, in rotated fields, peak densities are delayed, often resulting in reduced population sizes. Oscillations in population density would result in cycles of near-extinction/recolonization, increasing the effects of genetic drift and bringing about rapid fluctuations of mitochondrial haplotype frequencies (DeSalle et al, 1987).…”
