Color Doppler evaluation of aortic dissection.

Abstract: 748-755, 1987. PROGNOSIS of patients with aortic dissection is determined by several factors: duration of dissection at the time of diagnosis, location of intimal tear, site and extent of the dissection, presence or absence of blood flow in the false lumen, presence of pericardial effusion and tamponade, and presence and severity of aortic regurgitation.' Therefore, since the survival rate and consequent therapeutic approach of patients with aortic dissection is influenced by both anatomic and flow conditio… Show more

“…Our data confirm and extent previous evidences suggesting that TEE is an excellent option not only for the detection of aortic dissection [17][18][19][20] but also for follow-up of treated patients, with an accuracy at least comparable to that of CT [ 11 ].…”

“…In 14 of a group of 16 patients with aortic dissection color Doppler provided a display of oppositely directed blood flow in the true and false lumina of the aorta, and the site of communication between the two lumina could be identified [13]. To our knowledge the results of DCFI in a CCA dissection have not yet been reported, but our findings correspond with those from color Doppler examination of aortic dissection.…”

“…Reversal of flow in the false lumen has been identified on color Doppler sonography in dissecting aneurysms of the aorta 8 and carotid artery. [9][10][11] Kotval, in an analysis of the flow dynamics in a carotid artery dissection, attributed reversal of flow in an SMA aneurysm, such as we described in our case, to a to-and-fro excursion of the intimal flap, resulting in a reciprocally varying resistance to flow in the two lumina.…”
